ATTORNEY PROFILE
After ten years in the business world, W. David Johnson
decided that he wanted an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of
others so, in 1995, he left his successful career in business and, with his
wife and two small children by his side, entered law school.
W. David Johnson received a
Bachelor of Arts Degree from Winthrop
University in 1986. He
graduated from Touro
Law School
in 1999 and is currently admitted to practice law in South
Carolina, New York
and The United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the New York Bar
Association, The South Carolina Bar Association and the Charleston County Bar
Association.
W. David Johnson lives in Mount Pleasant with his wife, Kathy, and two
teenage daughters, Ashley and Casey. He is a member of the Charleston Exchange
Club and the Charleston Evening Exchange Club. W. David Johnson cherishes his
membership in the Charleston Exchange Club because in late October and early
November of each year he gets to take his “lawyer hat” off and work at the
Coastal Carolina Fair to help raise money for various local charities.
While W. David Johnson’s legal accomplishments are too
numerous to mention he is particular proud of the following:
- In 1997 the weight loss drugs Redux
and Pondimun were taken off the market because
they were suspected of causing heart problems. W. David Johnson spent the
next 10 years helping hundreds of people receive just compensation for
their injuries caused by the manufacturers of the drugs.
- In 2006 W. David Johnson was appointed to
represent an indigent man who was charged with very serious criminal
offenses. If convicted he would probably spend the majority of his
remaining life in prison. W. David Johnson made multiple visits to the
jail to speak with his client, who always maintained his innocence. W.
David Johnson spent, many, many hours, for which he was not compensated
for, investigating the legal and factual aspects of the case. While there
were several co-defendants who pled guilty W. David Johnson eventually got
all the charges against his client dismissed and he walked out of jail a
free man.
- In 2005, W. David Johnson received a call from an
associate who told him that an elderly lady he knew had been raising her 5
grandchildren for the last few years. The children’s mother, who was not
fit to raise her children, was attempting to take the children from their
grandmother. Unfortunately this wonderful grandmother did not have the
means to pay an attorney so W. David Johnson headed the call and
represented her pro bono. W. David Johnson work tirelessly and was
eventually able to get everybody to agree that the children belonged with
their grandmother. The court approved the agreement and now all the
children are healthy and happy with their grandmother and get to spend
time with their mother who is doing her best to change her life for the
better
W. David Johnson offers free consultations
because he loves meeting new people to discuss their legal needs. If you have
